Chester Barrie and David Harewood

22.12.17

British actor David Harewood has become something of a fan of Chester Barrie. Over the past four years he has chosen to wear our Savile Row tailoring for a variety of occasions, so when we suggested taking a few photos of him in some of our favourite pieces he happily agreed.

David built his reputation as a theatre actor but it is via the small screen that he has come to wider public recognition, most noticeably as David Estes, the director of the CIA’s Counter-terrorism Centre in Homeland, and currently as Hank Henshaw/J’onn J’onnz in Supergirl.

We first met him when he was starring in the movie Spooks; The Greater Good: we dressed him for his character Warrender and he liked the suit so much he came back and bought it. From that introduction grew a great relationship. He wore Chester Barrie eveningwear on the Red Carpet at the Olivier Awards and again he wore a classic navy suit when he presented the documentary Will Britain Ever Have a Black Prime Minister? Most recently he wore the brand at the British Urban Film Festival when the movie Free in Deed was premiered.

When he joined us at 100 Wardour Street in Soho, London he was back during a break in filming the latest series of Supergirl. We picked out four outfits for him to model: our two signature pieces of the season, the camel Kingly blazer and the three-piece wool silk linen three piece suit in teal. Alongside these two pieces we chose two real classics, the navy wool mohair suit that is fast becoming a fixture in our collection and the classic dinner suit – he wears it so well.

For David it was a novel experience. Obviously, he is used to being in front to the camera but normally he is being someone else … this time it was just David Harewood. We are very pleased with the results.
