A Night at the Oliviers – Celebrating Theatre’s Finest

13.04.18

Last weekend Chester Barrie took to the Red Carpet at the Olivier Awards as the theatre world celebrated the highlights of the past year.

Top of the bill, unsurprisingly, was the musical Hamilton, which came to London after a sell-out run on Broadway. The show won seven Oliviers in all, including Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical, won by Michael Jibson, and Best Actor in a Musical won by Giles Terera – both wore Chester Barrie on the night. Other nominees in Chester Barrie included the cast of Five Guys named Moe (Horace Oliver, Ian Calyle, Dex Lee, Emile Ruddock and Keenan-Munn Francis) and Oslo’s Peter Polycarpou.

The Oliviers celebrate the best of London’s West End and are held at the Royal Albert Hall. With a Red Carpet stretching from Prince Consort Road to the entrance of the hall itself, up The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Steps, many of the world’s leading actors put in an appearance.

Presenters and performers

Chester Barrie has been the menswear sponsor of the Oliviers for six years and we have become the tailor of choice for many stars of stage and screen. It was great to be able to welcome Michael Sheen back to Savile Row to dress him for his appearance on the Oliviers stage, while Jamie Lambert and Frank Dilella hosted live coverage from the Red Carpet.

Others who appeared on stage, either presenting awards or entertaining included Alfred Enoch, Alfred Molina and Jamie Lambert.

Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat

Way way back half a century ago, quite long after the Bible began, the hit musical Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat was first performed. To celebrate this milestone the finale of the Oliviers featured three of the most famous Josephs of recent time, on stage together – two of them wore Chester Barrie; the other wore the coat of many colours, of course. Joe McElderry, the most recent Joseph wore the coat (though he did wear Chester Barrie to the event) and he was flanked by Jason Donovan and Lee Mead, both dressed in classic black eveningwear – Jason in a shawl collar and Lee with a peak lapel.

As pictured top to bottom: Giles Terera & Michael Jibson, Michael Sheen, Alfie Enoch, Joe McElderry and Lee Mead, Jamie Lambert, and Alfred Molina.
